If you plan to build, renovate or demolish please apply for a building permit through Cloudpermit, online:
The Township of Armour’s Building Department is moving to implement a full digital building permit submission system. During this period of transition, we are encouraging the submission of all building permit applications to be completed online through Cloudpermit.
In favour of reducing paper requirements, all application forms, attachments and drawings can be completed and submitted in Cloudpermit.
The Township of Armour’s Building Department will continue to accept applications in other formats at this time.”
All contractors are required to obtain authorization from the property owner to dispose of construction waste at the Landfill. Please complete and submit the Contractor Authorization Form for Landfill Disposal to landfill@armourtownship.ca. Contractor must have a copy of the form available for the Attendant at the disposal site. Forms are also available at the municipal office.
Your property's zoning will determine what you can build on your property. For example, the Township’s Zoning By-law sets out what uses are permitted; how far a structure must be from the lot lines, etc. Please remember, site plan control may apply to your property. Contact the office early in your planning process to receive specific information about the requirements.
How and when you need a work permit for projects on Crown land and shore lands:
IMPORTANT NOTICE: The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) requires a work permit for ALL structures over the water (New/Repair/Replacement) that are greater than 15 square metres (161 square feet) of lake bed. If you are planning to dredge, construct a breakwall, dock or boathouse, the MNRF reminds landowners that a work permit may be required before working in the water or along your shoreline. For further information, please contact the MNRF directly at MNR.APPROVAL@ontario.ca or toll free at 1-800-667-1940.

The approval process for permits (not reviews) generally consists of screening the application for completeness, a site evaluation inspection, technical review and issuance of a permit. An approved permit is required prior to start of construction.
Please visit North Bay - Mattawa Conservation Authority for more details on obtaining a Septic Permit.
Following the recent amendments of the Ontario Building Code (Ontario Regulation 451/22 Section 28), a shed intended for storage purposes only and is ancillary (accessory) to a principal building on a lot does not require a building permit providing that:

· It is not more than one storey in building height;
· It is not attached to a building or any other structure, and
· It does not contain any plumbing
· It is not to be used for human habitation.
Note: An accessory structure must comply with the Ontario Building Code and the Township of Armour’s Zoning By-Law. Please contact our Building Department at buildingadmin@armourtownship.ca to find out setback and lot coverage information as it relates to your property.
